Narissa Bond is a winner of the Hampton Roads Portfolio Awards for best album and best song with her latest release "Three Words". Narissa’s vocal style has been compared to Joni Mitchell and her songwriting styles range from traditional folk, jazz and blues to contemporary folk and pop. Narissa was featured in the 2007 book release of “I’ve Got Thunder, Black Women Songwriters on their Craft” Edited by LaShonda Katrice Barnett. Other artist included in this publication are Abbey Lincoln, Angelique Kidjo, Brenda Russell, Chaka Khan, Dianne Reeves, Joan Armatrading, Nina Simone, Odetta, Toshi Reagan and many others.

Narissa has won numerous songwriting awards including first place in the Oak Valley Bluegrass Music Festival Songwriting Contest for her song “Celia,” a true story about a young slave girl. Narissa Bond has been featured on Public Radio WHRV-FM with Barry Graham, Paul Shugrue, Bob FM with Hunter Hughes in Norfolk Virginia.

Narissa has opened for national recording artists Ember Swift, David Wilcox, Lucy Kaplansky, Vance Gilbert, Richard Shindell, Stephen Bennett, Alix Dobkin,Ulali and blues artist, Ruthie Foster at the historic Attucks Theater in Norfolk.

Narissa Bond was born in the small city of Beaumont in southeast Texas in the 1960s. Narissa grew up listening to the music of the civil rights era including Jimi Hendrix, Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian, Peter, Paul and Mary, Odetta, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Nina Simone and many others

As a teenager, Narissa studied classical music in New Mexico and Jazz guitar in Kansas City at the Charlie Parker Foundation. Ms. Bond graduated from the University of Kansas earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Bond produced her first recording “A Free Spirit Can’t Run Fast in High Heels” in 1997 and her second recording in 1999 “Knocking at the Doorway to My Soul” while living in Kansas City.

Narissa Bond received a Fellowship from the Kansas Commission of Arts; praise for “A Free Spirit Can’t Run Fast in High Heels”. In the early 2000s, her travels took her to the east coast where Ms. Bond recorded and released her third recording “Between Two Rivers” at AMI Studios in Maryland, working with Suzanne Mallow and the two have completed Bond’s fourth recording “Three Words”at AMI Seagull Studios which was released in February 2008.
